History
Pyrox cremation retorts are the result of more than 45 years of experience in the manufacture, maintenance and repair of cremation and incineration equipment.
- In 1973, the Georges Nadeau company was founded and manufactured a variety of industrial equipment, including incinerators.
- In 1983, the first cremation retort project was started at the Saint-Charles cemetery in the Quebec City region.
- In 1985, given the demand for cremation retorts, The Georges Nadeau company changed names to become Énergies Pyrox.
- Between 1985 and 2013, Pyrox manufactured and installed more than 50 retorts in eastern Canada and in Asia.
- In November 2013, Louis-Philippe Carrier purchased Énergies Pyrox, located in the Sainte-Foy region of Quebec City, and CMC – Cremation Division was born. Sébastien Litalien is named chief executive officer.
- In October 2015, a new independent CMC entity was created: Pyrox Industries Inc. with Louis-Philippe Carrier and Sébastien Litalien as stakeholders.
- From 2015 to 2017, Pyrox began reengineering and designing a new generation of retorts.
- In June 2016, the first new generation X1000 retorts were installed in Granby and Val-d’Or in Quebec.
- In 2017, the design of the X3000 retort began in order to offer a new high-capacity retort that is among one of the highest performing globally.
- In 2018, Pyrox installed its first X1000 cremation retort in Europe in the Netherlands.
- In August 2018, the first X3000 retort was installed in Laval, Quebec.
- In 2019, in order to meet the company`s strong growth, Pyrox Industries purchased a new 11,200 square foot factory in Terrebonne, Quebec.
- In May 2019, Pyrox made its first sale to the United States. The sale was for an X3000 that will be installed in New Mexico in 2020.
Research and development
Thanks to constant research and development work, Pyrox equipment has greatly evolved over the past years.
Here are some examples:
- The 1000-PLUS retort has long been the reference and only Pyrox model offered. The larger version, the 1000-EXTRA was also popular for larger sized operators. Today, the new X1000 (the evolution of the 1000-PLUS) and our X1000-OS (evolution of the 1000-EXTRA) are two completely reinvented cremation retorts. Their features and different functionalities make these retorts more reliable and economical and have a smaller impact on the environment. Our engineers developed these two retorts between 2015 and 2018;
- The X3000 model was developed between 2017 and 2019 to meet increasing demand for high-capacity cremation retorts. This high-performing model includes unique features that set it in a category apart;
- With the design of the T800 automatic loading system, the X3000 requires nearly no cool-down period between cremations. This system allows for the safe loading of containers and coffins without the need for handling near the retort loading door, therefore avoiding the risk of injuries.
At Pyrox, we are constantly evolving and work daily to develop new equipment and accessories that meet the demands of our clients.
